Since defatted rice bran contains about 10% fiber, feed formula for pigs or poultry should have less than 30% defatted rice bran because they do not have some enzymes for specific fiber digestion. However, ruminant animals are different. They have microbial fermentation in rumen to synthesize enzymes for several types of fiber digestion. The quantity of defatted rice bran used also depends on the age. Young animals digestive systems are not fully developed, their digesting abilities are not as good as those of the grown-ups. Recommended usage of defatted rice bran in feed formulation for different stages of livestock1 are as follows:
